‘Saawariya’ opens in 85 theatres in North America11.12.07

Indo-Asian News ServiceNew York, Nov 10 (IANS) “Saawariya“, the first Bollywood film co-produced and distributed by a major Hollywood studio, has opened in 85 theaters in the US and Canada, with press reviews calling it a visually enchanting extravaganza.

saawariya_poster.jpgThe New York Times led its movie reviews section Friday with “Saawariya”, produced in collaboration between acclaimed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

“Eye and ear candy for fans of Indian musical cinema, it is 2 hours 11 minutes - bracingly compact by Bollywood standards - of wide-screen close-ups, fanciful sets, colorful costumes, bellybuttons, almost-kisses and 10 pumped-up, achingly sweet songs,” writes A.O. Scott, the Times’ well-regarded film critic.

In conclusion, Scott finds the film, released here Friday and starring newcomers Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor “visually enchanting, cloyingly sweet, at once utterly chaste and insanely erotic, and finally exhausting”.

Scott also notes that the film is rated PG (Parental guidance suggested) for “exposed bellybuttons and mild sexual innuendo”.

The rating itself, however, shows Sony’s professionalism, a lesson for Bollywood that rarely bothers to get an official rating in the US.

The Los Angeles Times headlines its review of “Saawariya” as “Bollywood grace–in a crazy way”. Its reviewer finds the film “typically outsized extravaganza — sure to drop your jaw with its ravishment or trigger a seizure, depending on your design temperament”.

The reviewer, however, concedes: “Bhansali’s operatic style — an ocean of close-ups, gliding camera moves and color saturation — achieves its own kind of crazy grace.”

LA Times is also scheduled to run a feature story on the film Sunday, according to the film’s US publicist.

Remember, Desi Wear has Exclusive Limited Edition T-shirts made in co-operation with Sony Pictures available here.

DW Blog?11.04.07

290158270_78d98d9899_t1.jpgWell I guess the first post should be about the first post. First I’ll introduce myself. Jef is my name, Creative Director is my game. (Yes, that’s Jef with one f). Over there we have Manny, he’s the man behind DW. We got a few other people lurking around the back rooms here at DW, but we don’t bother them much. Heh

Why a blog. Why now? This is a blogevolution baby! Long have we sought after a platform to share some of the132262836_2bd850f6be_t1.jpg more personal and exciting news coming out of DW. And now we’ve found it. We’ve jumped on the WordPress platform for this blog so prep for a rocket ride!
You see, we’re so excited about what’s coming for DW that we decided now if the perfect time to come out and share some
behind the scenes stuff on what makes DW the number one Urban Desi Street Wear in the world. (Sorry “otherguys”). The news, the upcoming designs, the events, the clubs, the music, the personalities, the talent all making up this movement of Desi.
After all, being cool is what desi culture stands for.

Speaking of images, yea, pictures are a large part of what we’re about here at DW. As the lead photographer I’ve always believed in proving the look and feeling through a certain style of photography. Together we’ve done a pretty good job of
Desi Wear - Ottawa Ucreating a unique “photodesigraphy” style. I personally believe these pictures are works of art, designed with music, architecture, all the while keeping our feet firmly grounded in street style. And it’s for this reason DW takes the path less traveled and openly displays all of our pictures. If we do a shoot with 80 pictures only a few will make it to the advertisement stage. And we’ll make a point of making sure you get to see those 80 pictures.743532791_1bf2706401_t.jpg
Take this shoot for example. Done in 2005 this still is one of my favorite shoots, and still stands up to the most current work. This was shot on location at Ottawa University with Alexandra Rodionova, (Lexxxy) and Charles-Eric Boncoeur, (Fuzzy). We had a whole crew on this shoot and turned a few heads as well.
Can’t leave out the new, the hot, and the extreme! We’ll be going behind the scenes of some of our most well
known works, events, and some tidbits on a few controversies. But we won’t keep the new away from you. No sir. Take this shoot with Parul Sharma. Hands down one of the most talents women your likely to meet. She was Miss world a few years back, and is now an up and coming singer..
This brings up the personalities who’ve gotten into our Ts. From Sugar Sammy, Gurinder Chadha, Jassi Sidhu, Lindsay Ferguson, Biff Naked, Alexandra Rodionova, Jaspal Binag, and the Dhol Foundation. They’ve all to got behind us in one way or another in support of spreading Desi Wear Gear.
dw_lion.jpgOne of the really cool things you’ll see along this ride is designs designs and designs. Oh, and maybe some designs. From old school out of prints Tshirts, to the ones that didn’t make the cut, to the hottest most current ones. And maybe if your lucky a few previews of what’s to come.
So stay tunned, join up, feed off us, post comments, bla bla bla. Do what ever you need to do to get your DW fix.
