Shah Rukh launches $2.2-bn real estate project in UAE10.10.08

Indo-Asian News Service

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has announced the launch of his signature real estate development, Shah Rukh Khan Boulevard, to be located in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).The 8-billion dirham ($2.2-billion) development will come up on Dana Island off the Ras Al Khaimah coast and will comprise studio and one and two-bedroom apartments.

In an interaction with reporters here ahead of the Cityscape 2008 real estate exhibition, which started on Monday, Shah Rukh said he had a fetish for houses and that was what led him to this project.

“I have a strange fetish for home. It’s close to my heart,” he was quoted as saying.

“Bit by bit, I have built my home where the future of my children lies. While I have done so much for my home, why can’t I extend this to others?” he asked.

The development will be designed by well-known architect Toni Ashai and will also comprise an underwater discotheque, a public square on the beach and a theatre.

The project will cover three million square feet.

The film star has associated himself with the project through TSA International Investments, a leading real estate financial consultancy in the UAE.

Khan already is associated with the UAE’s leading real estate developer Nakheel and owns a house on the posh Palm Jumeirah manmade island off the coast of the Dubai.

Though Bollywood actors have earlier endorsed real estate projects in the UAE, this is the first time that a celebrity himself is developing a property .

Gul Panag speaks about Hello10.09.08

Gul Panag’s early roles did not bode well for a future career as a ’serious’ actress. Making her screen debut in Dhoop opposite Sanjay Suri, then committing a Jurm with Bobby Deol. So it was a surprise to most, especially the critics who said that she was all face n figure, no acting ability at all, when, in 2006, she made a sudden and decisive return with Nagesh Kukunoor’s highly acclaimed Dor and an amazing comeback supported by a hard hitting thriller in 2007, Manorama Six Feet Under. Gul’s abilities could no longer be denied. It’s said that success tastes sweeter the longer you have to wait for it. Well, for a change, Panag can’t wait for her biggest commercial film ever, Hello, to release in two days. Looks like she is busy preparing to drown herself in nectar after the films sweet success. Time will tell that, but what I can tell you now is that this gorgeous Gul is getting all geared up to talk about Salman Khan, Sharman Joshi, her passion to write, her marketing strategies, her dancing abilities, her angst with the Censor Board of India and much more with London correspondent Devansh Patel in this Bollywood Hungama exclusive. Hello…are you listening?

Luv to Bhang!09.19.08

“Luv to Bhang” is a celebration of Bhangra Music in the city of Toronto!

It is a new type of party that is limited to those 25 & up, a mature clientele. Each male to every event must be accompanied by one Female, otherwise ADMISSION WILL BE DENIED to all events. Everything will be Strictly Enforced. With no admission restrictions on females.

If you remember the days of Basement parties at your uncles, and the pounding beat of Heera, Alaap, and Premi, as you danced in circles, well then this Party is for you!

It is brought to you by two Bhangra lovers that feel it’s time that the culture and music truly be enjoyed in an atmosphere where everyone can relax and bhang to the music! Rav (Double AA) & Manny (Desi Wear) found their is major void in the market. Gone are the days of hitting clubs every week, let alone once in a while. Many of us now are professionals, entrepreneurs, working hard, involved in serious relationships, or starting young families. But the love for Bhangra music has not died.

Why is it that now you can only enjoy the music you love in a banquet hall, eating bad food, with watered down drinks, not to mention your family looking at you because…well you have had one too many! While the ladies have to wear uncomfortable footwear, trying to fit into traditional clothing that does not let them let loose, and oh yes visiting the bar when it’s crowding with unlces is not always a comfortable feeling! Not to mention the party is over by 1:00 AM…at 1 AM we’re only GETTING STARTED!

Desi, Irish, Korean, Japanese - they’re all represented.09.17.08

Delhi 2 Dublin discovered itself by accident when a collective of DJs, Beats Without Borders, was asked to play at Vancouver’s Celtic fest in 2006. “None of us had any Celtic stuff,” recalls Tarun Nayar, the lead tabla player. “We thought, ‘Let’s start making some Celtic electronica.’ Myself and Adrian Blackhurst got in touch with some fiddle players and then decided to contact Sanjay Seran from Signia, to overlay some bhangra vocals.

“We had never practised together before the gig and we had come up with only two songs. When we performed the two Celtic-Punjabi fusion songs, the crowd went nuts, the electricity was pulsating.” Since then, the band has evolved into a steady group of five: Nayar, Seran, Ravi Binning, Andrew Kim and Kytami.
