Rising Star Feature - Anita Gahir • 08.12.08
Rising Indiana University junior Anita Gahir was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team, the organization announced. A total of 402 women’s collegiate golfers at the Division I, II and III levels were honored.
Gahir recently completed her sophomore season at Indiana where she was a second-team All-Big Ten selection. She led the Hoosiers in scoring average (76.16) and had the low round of the year with a 68 in the final round of the Mountain View Collegiate. That propelled Gahir to her best finish of the season, a tie for seventh, and helped lead the team to the overall tournament titles.
Gahir was the Hoosiers’ top finisher at the Big Ten Championships, finishing in a tie for 14th, finishing the season with five top-25 results. She was also named to the Academic All-Big Ten squad in the spring.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
