Priyanka Chopra walking in a golden swimsuit in Dostana’s first promos, Minissha Lamba sizzling down in her pearly white bikini swimming carelessly in the Ocean or Kareena Kapoor flaunting her zero size figure in a electric green bikini in Tashan… Bollywood sure knows how to flaunt their leading ladies to grab eye-balls.

But how far does this tactic help in pulling crowds to the cinema hall? Can a bikini clad Kareena Kapoor, Mallika Sherawat or Bipasha Basu evoke so much interest and curiosity.

New Delhi, (IANS) Actress Kareena Kapoor has been appointed the new brand ambassador of soft drinks giant PepsiCo’s snacks. She will be seen with boyfriend Saif Ali Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni in a new ad campaign for the product.“It is a privilege to be associated with the brand as it is a big hit among youngsters. I’m excited and looking forward to a long and fulfilling association with the brand,” said Kareena in a press statement.
The new TV commercial will go on air in mid-November.

“Kareena’s vibrant persona, pan-India appeal and her confident attitude makes her a great fit for our brands,” said Deepika Warrier, PepsiCo’s marketing director.

New Delhi, (IANS) An actor, classical dancer, filmmaker and politician - Bollywood’s ‘dream girl’ Hema Malini who juggles different roles with aplomb, turns 60 Thursday but says she still feels 16 at heart.

“I feel 16 at 60. I guess age has nothing to do with creativity, but it certainly has a lot to do with maturity and dedication. I have lived life on my own terms and conditions and now when I look back, I feel happy about all the decisions I have taken,” Hema said in a statement released here Wednesday.

The actress, who is also a Bharatanatyam dancer-choreographer, plans to start her special day by offering prayers at the famed Tirupati Temple in Andhra Pradesh with daughters Esha and Ahana Deol.

2008 seems to be quite an eventful year for Priyanka Chopra. After having four of her films hit the silver screen this year, the actress is now looking forward to two big films- namely Fashion and Dostana.

Kajol was recently appointed as the goodwill ambassador of the U.K. based Loomba Trust, a charity dedicated to the education of widow’s children in and around India.

The function held at Whitehall London (on the occasion of UN International day to celebrate non-violence- Oct 2) saw some bigwigs such as Cherie Blair (wife of former British P.M. Tony Blair), Mayor of London Boris Johnson and India’s high commissioner to the U.K. Shiv Shankar Mukherjee in attendance.

Yes, it’s the largest film industry in the world - and I love telling that to all my non-desi friends - but there’s one thing that bugs me about Bollywood. You might be thinking it’s the four hour running times, the over-the-top acting style or maybe the fact that the same love story is told a million times over with different actors/actresses…but that’s all a part of the Bollywood genre.

It’s the lip syncing.

And yes, I know that’s part of Bollywood too – but the industry, in my mind, does not give enough credit to the actual singers or musicians that make the songs. Bollywood movies are musicals, and the songs play a big role in the films success, the real singers deserve more respect and acknowledgment.

It especially gets me when Bollywood fans sell-out stadiums to see their favourite actors “performing live”, with no appearances from the real singers. Don’t get me wrong, Bollywood actors have a lot of talent in acting, and performing, and of course that’s what captivates fans. But after paying $85 for a musical concert – wouldn’t you want to hear live singing, as well as your favourite screen stars? Maybe that’s just me.

I think the fame and stardom that the actors and actresses get is totally deserved – they are the Faces of Bollywood. But I also think it’s about time that the Voices of Bollywood get the same credit!

So we here at DW want to pay respect to the real singers of the Bollywood Film Industry…and the most famous of them all is the legendary “Lata Mangeshkar!“ She has sang in over 980 Bollywood movies and has sung songs in over 20 Indian languages. She is the elder sister of the equally accomplished singer Asha Bhosle. Lata is the second vocalist ever to have received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor. And if that isn’t enough, Lata was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world.

She is by far the undisputed Queen of the play-back singers. We honor her by featuring her in our newly released “DESI VOICE” shirt.
