Sonam Kapoor charms in ‘Dilli 6′ first look trailer.12.20.08

The theatrical first look was unveiled at Dubai International Film Festival. Present at the event were Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and UTV’s head honcho Siddharth Roy Kapoor.

The promo tantalizes without revealing too much. The background musical score has a stirring serenity and the cinematography is impressive. The camera zooms in on Abhishek Bachchan from behind but he never turns around, perhaps because the promoters want to keep his makeover under wraps for some more time?

Dilli 6 headlines Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Waheeda Rehman, Om Puri, Divya Dutta, Rishi Kapoor, Tanvi Azmi, Gulshan Grover and Tanvi Azmi.

The film, an autobiographical account of growing up in Chandni Chowk, was largely shot in Rajasthan using sets to recreate Chandni Chowk.

Jackson’s personal invite to Shilpa.12.17.08

Shilpa ShettyVia Times of India

Mikaeel Jackson (that’s his new name) inviting her for his brother Jermaine’s birthday bash which Mikaeel himself was throwing.

Jackson’s brother was one of the contestants of Big Brother along with Shilpa Shetty and Jade Goody. Besides Shilpa, Jackson had also sent an invite to Jade Goody. We are told both the foes-turned-friends — Shilpa and Jade — had been specially invited as ‘Chief Guests’ for Jermaine’s birthday. Can you ‘beat it’? Needless to say, Shilpa was very excited to get a personal invitation from the King of Pop himself. Who won’t be, right? Hmm, ‘pop’ some champagne to that?

Desi Watch - Anjulie11.13.08

Born to immigrant parents from Guyana and raised in Toronto, the now Los Angeles-based 26 year old Anjulie is an intriguing, authentic new voice on the pop landscape. With melodic gifts, vocal prowess and sophistication, she announces herself as a true original on her debut ‘Boom’ EP and forthcoming self-titled album for Hear Music. Co-written with her producer and collaborator Jon Levine (of Canadian R&B hit makers the Philosopher Kings), Anjulie sets intensely personal stories about her life, loves, obsessions, and heartbreaks to a glittering genre-blending mix of pop, hip-hop, rock, and world rhythms she heard growing up.

The slinky opening track “Boom,” works a dark, Nancy Sinatra-esque ’60s vibe, while the sweet pop sophistication of “Love Songs” and “Day Will Soon Come” exhibit her personal and musical confessions come to life. Much like her contemporaries Nelly Furtado, Corinne Bailey Rae and Lily Allen, Anjulie is ready to carve out her own essential place in popular music with this versatile, confident, eclectic introduction.

India is next big thing in global rock music.11.03.08

India is the next big thing on the global rock music map with international bands culling heavily from this country, say Indian and international rock musicians.

Many of them are performing at the two-day Fuel-Great Indian Rock festival that began in Mumbai Thursday. The Delhi leg of the festival is to take place Nov 1-2 at the Hamsadhwani open air theatre in Pragati Maidan.

The 13-year-old festival, one of the oldest international rock music festivals in the country, will travel to seven cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Shillong, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.

“Indian rock musicians are innovating. Bands in this country are incorporating elements from Indian classical and religious music into hard rock and heavy metal. They sound very good. Asia is where all the action will take place in the future. I just heard Pentagram, a Mumbai-based band, yesterday and I liked their music,” Mattias Seklunth, guitarist and vocalist of the 16-year-old Swedish rock band Freak Kitchen, told IANS here Thursday.
