Winter fashion forecast.11.14.08

Designers Gurpreet Pia Fleming of Bian, Rahul and Gunjan of Sirali and hair and make-up expert Samantha Kochhar have forecast four vibrant looks for the beautiful winter. “Winter does not mean that you go out of style. It’s all about creativity and exuberance of the inner self,” said designer Rahul of the Rahul-Gunjan duo. “There is a misconception that people don’t like to dress up in winter because of heavy loaded woolen clothes. It’s just a myth. After all, every woman wants to look and feel good,” he added.

In terms of collections, the designers are inspired by global trends and they have given them an Indian interpretation. For the “winter garden” collection, Rahul-Gunjan have floral prints taking the lead, but the hues have become darker and bolder - making your wardrobe a happy burst of colour.

Emotional Performance by Priyanka Chopra.11.06.08

When Priyanka Chopra walked the ramp for the last time in “Fashion” she got a standing ovation from the audience at a theatre here. But the one to get most emotionally moved was her dad, who broke down seeing his daughter’s performance.

Watching Priyanka play the small-town girl who leaves home to become a model in the metropolis in Madhur Bhandarkar’s “Fashion” was a deeply emotional experience for Ashok Chopra Wednesday.

“He just broke down. Watching my character Meghna in ‘Fashion’, he saw his little girl from Jamshedpur going all the way to Mumbai to become Miss World. In fact his sense of identification with that whole portion in Chandigarh where I’m this plump Punjabi girl leading a sheltered life with her parents, was very deep,” Priyanka said from Dubai where she attended the “Fashion” premiere Thursday night.

Sweet salaries for Indian ‘eye candy’10.30.08

Many established Bollywood beauties have recently taking on a new role - posing in skimpy outfits for international magazines. The risque photo spreads are jacking up magazine sales and added some hefty amounts to the bank balances of various Indian divas.

So far, the list of foreign magazines seeking open-minded Indian models includes Vogue, Conde Nast, Harper’s Bazaar, Maxim, Hello, Rolling Stone, People, Housekeeping and Marie Claire.

Former Miss India winner Gul Panag recently posed in revealing black lingerie on the cover of the men’s magazine Maxim. She follows in the scantily clad footsteps of sub-continental starlets such as Neha Dhupia, Amrita Arora, Deepika Padukone, Shreya

Saran, Minissha Lamba, Mallika Sherawat, Amisha Patel, Shilpa Shetty and Soha Ali Khan.

Needless to say, Gul Panag, like the others, worked out endlessly, stuck to a strict diet and reduced herself to the coveted “size zero” to fit into the perfect bikini and hot pants.

Indian fashion. Coloured perceptions?10.22.08

A few days ago, a foreign model walking in the DFW had said that she loved the Indian models.

“They’re so well groomed and we are so laid back, back home,” she had said. The same girl, after walking the ramp alongside the Indian girls on Day I of the DFW, said on condition of anonymity, “I think Indian models feel threatened by us. They’re being nasty to us and the choreographers too.”

It’s a bit of a turnaround, but the feeling was prevalent. Many Indian models had something or the other to complain about too, but they chose to be anonymous. “Why should South African models be promoted by putting our careers at stake?” asked one, accusing the South African choreographer of the DFW, Jan Malan, of favoring the South African girls and recommending them to designers while looking down on the Indian ones, preventing them from getting work.
